This area containing all the highest peaks, is by far the most popular region in the Atlas for walkers. The trek up to Toubkal and the Neltner hut is undertaken each year by several thousand visitors of all nationalities. It is in some ways atypical of the Atlas trekking experience, being an area of stark volcanic peaks, rather than the usual limestone scenery found elsewhere.
